The Part time non-Cook
The Part Time Non-Cook is the person who has non-cook leanings and sympathies, and considers himself or herself to qualify for non-cook status part or some of the time. Sometimes you feel like a cook, sometimes you don't. What kind of non-cook is that, we may say. Where is the commitment? Where is the pathos? Be advised: The non-cook community has room for all kinds of potatoes; we are not purists. We do not demand hardcore non-cook street cred, though we do admire it when it comes along. Meanwhile, the Part Time Non-Cook comes in many varieties. The degree of commitment to not cooking and nature of non-cook identity vary widely amongst Part Time Non-Cooks. The cook/non-cook conversion through which the Part Time Non-Cook must go is a mystery, with mysterious origins. All we know is that horses are changed midstream, and then changed back again. It can be seasonal, periodic, or occasional. It can be recurring or a total one time thing. Some Part Time Non-Cooks do their not-cooking on a schedule or according to a set plan: this one never cooks for any holidays, that one never cooks on weekends, etc. Conversely, some are fickle, not cooking erratically, not knowing what has come over them, just as unpredictable as the ripeness of a melon before you slice it open. Is it ready to eat or not? Do you feel like the kind of person who can actually make that call? Do you feel like the kind of person who can sometimes make that call?
Note: Due to also harboring feelings of cookishness part or some of the time, this type might also be referred to as a Part Time Cook. However, it is probably better not flip things and tread in the "cook" area of categorization for fear of overstepping bounds. And anyway, who ever really knows if the glass is half full or half empty!
